Environmental Impact Monitoring Program

Gassman Development Perspectives regularly conducts environmental monitoring in areas surrounding aquaculture activities occurring at a major prawn farm in Far North Queensland.

As part of complying with licence conditions to undertake prawn farming activities, Pacific Reef Fisheries engaged us to implement an Environmental Impact Monitoring Program. At various points surrounding the water discharge point of the farm and nearby reference points, various parameters are regularly measured including mangrove density, benthic macro invertebrate abundance and diversity, and sediment biogeochemistry.

Any observed changes over time are discussed and Gassman Development Perspectives works with the farm to ensure that environmental impacts from the farm’s activities are minimised.
