Queensland Headquarters, Wacol

Gassman Development Perspectives acted as town planner, ecologist, landscape architect and land surveyor in the redevelopment of a former youth correctional centre into the new Queensland RSPCA Headquarters.

With the existing RSPCA headquarters at Fairfield reaching capacity, a new site needed to be found that would accommodate their future growth. The new RSPCA Headquarters development at Wacol is considered a state of the art facility, which has the ability to now cater for animal refuge facilities, veterinary services and retail opportunities.

Detailed issues such as the widening and alignment of an upgraded Wacol Station Road, as well as ensuring that retail activities were tailored to the specific nature of the use, were resolved in consultation with the broader project team.

The landscape design of the new site provides the RSPCA with a number of attractive and functional spaces that will cater for the needs of visitors, staff and animals.  The design uses a predominately native species palette which not only delivers an attractive robust landscape but also provides valuable fresh flowers and leaves for the animals.
