Gassman Development Perspectives is currently acting as surveyor, town planner and landscape architect for the redevelopment and refurbishment of the Rainbow Bay Surf Lifesaving Club. The redevelopment includes retrofitting community facilities located on the ground level of the club and extending recreational decking on the first level. Plans are also proposed to rationalise lot boundaries to coincide with the future building footprint of the club which would also cater for the relocation of waste management facilities and loading areas on a very constrained block.
As the lead planning consultant, we are undergoing a two-tiered application approach to address Gold Coast City Council’s needs as land-owner and planning authority as it relates to the Surf Club premises. We are working with GCCC representatives and the project architects to obtain a building design that is both sympathetic to the heritage of the Surf Club whilst also providing a visual statement about being progressive within the surf club movement. The site is heavily constrained by the existing structure of the building and surrounding park. As the second most populated beach on the Gold Coast, the redevelopment of the surf club is certainly long overdue.
