Ian joined Gassman Development Perspectives in early 2017 as a Senior Civil Designer. Ian brings to GDP over 14 years’ experience in Civil Engineering Design in both the private and public sectors throughout Queensland and New South Wales.
Ian has a background in Information Technology having been offered a Programming Scholarship by IBM in 2002. Ian coupled his computer systems knowledge and technical ability with his passion for design and pursued a career in Civil Engineering with tertiary studies commencing at the University of Southern Queensland (USQ), Toowoomba, in 2003.
Ian graduated in early 2008 with the attainment of an Associate Degree in Engineering. In 2011, Ian completed his Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Majoring in Civil Engineering) at the same institution.
Ian is a highly proficient and technical Civil Designer who excels in the use of 12d Model, AutoCAD, Autodesk Vehicle Tracking, HEC-Ras, MUSIC, MapInfo and Camtasia. He also has extensive experience in civil infrastructure works including cycleway network design, recreational and community facility design, sports field upgrades, subdivision design, urban town centre renewal, road and stormwater drainage upgrades, hydrological and hydraulic modelling, water sensitive urban design and utility services modelling.
Ian is an active member of the Institute of Public Works Engineers Australasia (IPWEA) having presented various papers at State and International-level conferences. Most recently, Ian had one of his papers published to the 2015 IFME World Congress & IPWEA International Public Works conference held in Rotorua, New Zealand.
Ian has a keen eye for detail, is thorough in his practice, and exhibits an excellent knowledge of Quality Management Systems (QMS) compliant to the requirements of ISO 9001. Ian undertakes an important mentoring role to the Graduate Civil Engineers and Technicians within the business.
Ian brings to GDP an enthusiastic attitude and a confident design philosophy that is underpinned by his ability to achieve sound Engineering outcomes considerate of time and cost. Ian is a central team member who seeks to achieve practical and innovative solutions for his Clients. Ian regularly attends industry events and seminars to help stay abreast of the latest in civil and stormwater drainage design innovations, software product enhancements, construction materials and regulatory guidelines. Ian is committed to expanding his civil design portfolio with the successful delivery of many exciting projects in his tenure with GDP.
Ian is currently pursuing his Chartered Professional Status on the Board of Registered Engineers of Queensland.
